4 REASONS YOUR CAR BATTERY IS DRAINING SUPER FAST

Car battery

Is your car battery draining super fast? Your car battery is the most important equipment needed in starting and driving your car. It sends power from the starter motor to the spark plugs, igniting your car fuels and giving power to other systems like lights, radio, airconditioning, etc.

The problem, however, is that most car batteries drain fast, really really fast. And we are going to be dealing with that in this post because I can assure you your battery drains for so many reasons, even the ones we consider mundane. Before we delve into it, I will tell you this once and for all: NOTHING BEATS BUYING A GOOD BATTERY. If battery is the life of your car, you must invest in really good ones.

So, I will list out various reasons for your battery drain.

1.Human error (That got to be the first on the list)
2.Parasitic draw or drain
3.Excessive short drive
4.Corroded or loose battery cable
5.Defective alternator
6.Extreme temperature

HUMAN ERROR

The reason your car battery is draining could be because of some little errors on your part. In fact, most of the reasons for a battery draining is as a resultof this error. Leaving the lights on drains your battery. I know you may be guilty of that, but do that no more if you want your cary battery to last. Charging your devices drain your battery too. Yeah, too bad but it does even if the battery is the most durable. So ensure you unplug your devices when you park your car. If it isn’t time that is having effect on your car, then trying to see if you could be the reason is a wise step to take.

That’s it!

PARASITIC DRAW OR DRAIN

After switching everything off including your engine, your battery still drains? Then it could be parasitic drain. Axle Addict says A parasitic battery drain is when an abnormal and continuous discharge of power occurs after having shut off the engine.

HOW TO CHECK IF THERE’S PARASITIC BATTERY DRAIN
1.Connect a digital multimeter to the negative battery terminal of your car
2.Remove all the fuses one after the other (one at a time) while watching for changes in the multimeter reading.
3.Once the reading drops, you have found the problem!

How do you fix a parasitic drain?
1.Take off the negative battery terminal
2.Connect it between two wires
3.Start pulling the fuses
4.Turn off the switch on the overhead light

EXCESSIVE SHORT DRIVE

I know this might look outrageous but your car needs as much power as it depletes and short drives can’t ever give it that back. You can get any good battery charger to get your battery charged while it is sitting at home.

CORRODED OR LOOSE BATTERY CABLE

This won’t actually drain your battery but it will prevent it from charging as the alternator won’t recaive a good electricity.

Problem starting car
Hot ground wire cable
Headlight flicker
Low voltage car battery

HOW TO FIX A LOOSE CABLE
Tightening a loose positive or negative battery cable is quite easy and can be done in no time so far you know how to turn a wrench.  Typically, there is be a nut attached to the battery terminal that you only need to turn to tighten up the connection. Yippee! You have the solution

A car alternator is a type of electric generator used in automobiles to charge the battery and power electrical system when the engine is running.
